Classes and resources supporting pregnancy, birth, postnatal care and parenting.
Booking and Access
Classes are available online (Webex) and in person at 65 Lower Mount Street, D02NX40.
To book, email classes@nmh.ie or call Susan on (01) 637 3499, including:
- Name registered with the hospital
- Estimated due date (EDD)
- Date of birth
- Hospital number
- Whether this is your first baby
- Any relevant information

Our Parent Education Midwives, Theresa Barry and Eleanor Durkin, offer a wide range of classes and resources to support you and your partner through pregnancy, birth and early parenting.
Supporting your learning
Our NMH eLearning Hub offers short modules to support your classes – we recommend reviewing relevant topics in advance.
Classes Available
We’re here to support you every step of the way – helping you feel informed, confident and prepared for your journey ahead.
Wellbeing in Pregnancy (online)
Held monthly on Fridays, 9am – 10:30am:
- 1st Friday – Healthy pregnancy & medication safety (Midwife & Pharmacist)
- 2nd Friday – Healthy bodies (Physiotherapist)
- 3rd Friday – Healthy eating (Dietitian)
- 4th Friday – Healthy minds (Mental Health Team)
You’ll receive one link for all four sessions and can attend as many as you wish.
First-Time Parent Classes (3 sessions)
Available online or in person (Mon, Wed, Thurs, Fri in person; Tue/Mon mornings online, plus Thursday evenings 5:30pm – 7:45pm).
We recommend starting from around 30 weeks (in-person places are limited).
- Class 1 – Labour and birth
- Class 2 – Interventions and postnatal recovery
- Class 3 – Baby care and infant mental health
Women-only classes: Tuesdays, 2pm – 5:30pm.
Please only book in-person if you can attend all sessions.
Additional Classes
- Partners’ class (online) – monthly, 5pm – 7pm
- Young parents classes – 2 in-person sessions (~2 hours each)
- Refresher class – 3 hours, twice monthly (online/in person)
- VBAC class – 3 hours, ~twice monthly (online/in person)
- Planned caesarean class – monthly, 3-hour online session
- Twins class – monthly, 3-hour online session

Special Interest Classes
Additional support classes
- Hypnobirthing (online, monthly – 4 hours) – builds calm, confidence and coping skills
- Breastfeeding class
- Online: 3rd Wednesday monthly, 6pm – 8pm
- In person: Level 1 Lecture Theatre (walk-in)
- Colostrum harvesting – Fridays 9:30am – 10:30am, NMH Boardroom (some dates vary), no booking needed, free kits provided
- Mental wellbeing classes
- Healthy Minds in Pregnancy – 4th Friday monthly
- Supporting Postnatal Emotional Wellbeing – monthly Wednesday morning
- Healthy Bodies After Birth – Fridays 11am – 12:30pm (online)
Dietitian-led sessions
Support for nutrition and feeding, including:
- Tús Maith (Good Start) – for women with BMI >25, last Monday monthly (~1 hour)
- Nausea & vomiting support group – Wednesdays 12:30pm (~1 hour)
- Feeding your baby at home – every 2 weeks (Friday ~12pm)
- Introducing solids after neonatal care – monthly (Wednesday ~11pm)
