Work Experience

Work Experience

Regretably, we are currently unable to facilitate any clinical work experience placements for Pre-Nursing (QQI/FETAC) or Transition year students at The National Maternity Hospital. Unfortunately, due to resource constraints, applications received will not be replied to.

Midwifery Elective Placements

The National Maternity Hospital facilitates a small number of Erasmus placements for Midwifery students in conjunction with our academic partner, UCD. Applications for Erasmus placements MUST be made through UCD.

Please do not apply directly to The National Maternity Hospital via this link for Erasmus placements as only applications processed in conjunction with and via UCD will be considered or responded to.

Elective Placements in the National Maternity Hospital

Some elective non-practice placements are facilitated from time to time for undergraduate and postgraduate Midwifery students, at the discretion of the clinical areas.
In order to request an elective placement student midwives must provide evidence of registration in an approved course from their course supervisor. Students must also provide evidence of insurance from their University. Insurance policies stipulate that visitors to the hospital may only observe practice and not become involved in the direct provision of care. Because of this stipulation elective placements are normally of 1 week duration.

Elective placements applicants will also be required to furnish evidence of immunity status and essential training before being accepted for elective placements.

The National Maternity Hospital does not provide accommodation for visiting students. For further information/discussion, email: epdinfo@nmh.ie.
