Urogynaecology Referral Information
Information on referrals, physiotherapy supports and conservative management for prolapse and urinary incontinence.
Urogynaecology Referrals
Referrals to the Urogynaecology Clinic can be made by Healthmail or letter. All referrals are triaged by a Consultant and appointments are offered based on clinical priority. Due to significant demand on the service, waiting times for appointments are currently long.
The majority of patients referred to the clinic present with non-urgent conditions such as prolapse and urinary incontinence.
Physiotherapy and Conservative Management
Women offered an appointment to the clinic are also invited to attend an online or in-person physiotherapy information session. These sessions include:
- Advice on symptom management
- Guidance on pelvic floor exercises
- Lifestyle measures that may improve symptoms
We strongly encourage women to attend these sessions to learn about conservative treatment options that can help manage pelvic floor symptoms.
Engagement with pelvic floor physiotherapy can be particularly beneficial for women experiencing prolapse or urinary incontinence. Where possible, we recommend referral to a local pelvic health physiotherapist while awaiting a clinic appointment.
Helpful lifestyle measures may include:
- Weight reduction
- Smoking cessation
- Reducing caffeinated and fizzy drinks
- Management of constipation
