The Smoking Cessation Service offers warm, non‑judgemental and practical support to help you stop smoking or using e‑cigarettes.
Here you’ll find information about smoking in pregnancy, how we can support you, tips for quitting, the benefits of stopping, and helpful links.
This is free service is available to all women attending The National Maternity Hospital, including:
- pregnant women
- women who have recently given birth
- women planning a pregnancy
- women attending gynaecology services.
We know it can be difficult to stop smoking. We are here to help you.
You are four times more likely to quit for good with the right support.
How we can help you?
When you reach out to us, you’ll be met with kindness, understanding and practical guidance. Our one‑to‑one support is confidential, friendly and tailored to you.
- Build your quit plan — together we explore what works for you and your lifestyle.
- Learn about Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) — we explain your options and how they can help.
- Free NRT — patches and gum are available at no cost.
- Ask anything — no question is too small; we’re here to reassure and guide you.
Preparing to Quit
Try this simple exercise:
Write down what you like about smoking, then what you don’t like. Compare the lists.
If the negatives outweigh the positives, it may be the right moment to give quitting a try

For pregnant women who smoke or have recently quit and wish to attend The National Maternity Hospital:
- Ask about smoking status
- Advise with clear, personalised guidance to stop smoking
- Act/Arrange by sending a referral
