Pharmacy

Our Pharmacy Team plays a vital role in your care throughout pregnancy, birth, gynaecology and neonatal treatment.

We work behind the scenes and at the bedside to make sure every medicine you or your baby receives is safe, effective and used in the best possible way.

The Pharmacy Department supports you by ensuring medicines are managed safely and appropriately across maternity, gynaecology and neonatal services.

Our pharmacists and pharmacy technicians provide specialist clinical services in areas such as antimicrobial stewardship, maternal medicine, neonatology, medicines information, informatics and the pre‑assessment clinic.

We also offer expert guidance on medicines in pregnancy and breastfeeding, helping you and your healthcare team make informed decisions about your treatment.

We provide a comprehensive pharmaceutical service across maternity, gynaecology and neonatal care. Our goal is to make sure that every medicine used in the hospital is safe, effective and appropriate for you or your baby.

Medication safety is at the heart of what we do. We continually review how medicines are prescribed, prepared and administered, identifying risks and recommending improvements to keep you safe.

Our work includes:

  • Purchasing and dispensing medicines for inpatient and outpatient care
  • Clinical pharmacy services in:
    • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
    • Maternal Medicine Clinic
    • Antimicrobial Stewardship
    • Informatics
    • Gynaecology Pre‑assessment Clinic
  • Medicines information for healthcare professionals and patients, including advice on medicines in pregnancy and lactation
  • Developing medication‑related policies to ensure best practice and national standards are followed

Everything we do is designed to support your care, reduce risk and ensure that medicines are used in the safest and most effective way possible.
