Inclusion Health

Being homeless and facing marginalisation creates challenges for women, and we want to understand these challenges and support you through this.

Being homeless or socially excluded should never be a barrier to receiving high quality care, and this is our aim in the National Maternity Hospital.

We have a specialist Medical Social Worker who can support you if you are homeless, at risk of homelessness or face marginalisation.

You will be offered a referral to the Inclusion Health Medical Social Worker if you share with us that you are:

Homeless or At Risk of Homelessness
An International Protection Applicant
A Ukrainian Beneficiary of Temporary Protection
A member of the Travelling/Roma community facing additional challenges with accessing antenatal care
Engaged with the Criminal Justice System
A Sex Worker

How can we support you?

  • Offer you an appointment to meet with the Medical Social Worker where we can listen to your story, and work together to identify what areas you might need support with
  • Support you to access care and information about your appointments in a language and communication style you can understand
  • Provide signposting to housing and health services in the community, and help you to understand and navigate these services
  • Support you with attending/adjusting your antenatal appointments to take into account the extra stresses you face if you are socially excluded
  • Help you to prepare practically and emotionally for the birth of your baby, and link you with hospital and community services that can help you with items for your baby
  • Act as a bridge between you and the hospital, ensuring that you require individualised support that takes into account the extra challenges you might face being homeless or socially excluded
