Through our partnership with Reiki Federation Ireland (RFI), we offer free Reiki sessions to NMH patients as an additional layer of emotional and physical support alongside your medical care
What Is Reiki (霊気)?
Reiki, meaning “universal life force energy”, is a traditional Japanese healing practice that encourages deep relaxation and a sense of balance in mind, body, and spirit.
It is:
- Not linked to any religion
- Safe, gentle, and non‑diagnostic
- Free from side effects
- Fully compatible with all medical treatments
There are no contraindications, and no belief system is required for it to work.
What to Expect During Your Reiki Session
Your first appointment begins with a simple explanation of the treatment and an opportunity to share any concerns or preferences. Every session is shaped around your comfort and your needs.
- Sessions last 30–60 minutes
- You remain fully clothed
- You may sit or lie down comfortably
- Touch is only used with your consent (head, hands, feet)
- If you prefer not to be touched, the practitioner will work a few centimetres above your body
- You may pause or stop the session at any time
Appointments take place in a quiet room in the NMH during the afternoon or evening. Afterward, you’ll be invited to complete a short feedback form to help us understand your experience.
Who Will Be Treating Me?
All Reiki practitioners volunteering at the NMH are:
- Fully qualified members of Reiki Federation Ireland
- Garda vetted by the hospital
- Insured to provide Reiki treatments

This is a private service provided by RFI.
The hospital facilitates access but is not responsible for service delivery. Participation is entirely your choice.
Is There a Cost?
No. Reiki sessions are completely free, offered by RFI as a voluntary service.
