Getting to know your baby takes time. In the early weeks, your baby learns through connection — your voice, your touch, your face. Even shortly after birth, babies can be social and responsive. They may turn toward familiar sounds or try to mimic your expressions.

Try this: when your baby is alert and looking at you, open your eyes wide and gently stick out your tongue. Wait a moment — your baby may try to copy you. Every baby is different, and their responses will vary depending on their birth, health, and alertness.
