Preoperative Assessment Clinic

Our mission is to understand your health and help you prepare for your gynaecology surgery.

What we do

We prepare you for your surgery by performing as assessment of your current health status including medical, surgical, social and emotional wellbeing. We also provide information and education about your surgery. Our aim is to achieve the best possible outcome for you.

Your Preoperative Assessment Clinic Appointment

Your preoperative assessment helps ensure you are fully prepared for your procedure, reducing delays and the risk of cancellation on the day of surgery. During your assessment, we will review your medical history and discuss any tests you may need before surgery. This is also an opportunity to ask questions about your procedure or anaesthetic. Most patients will have an initial telephone assessment, with a follow-up hospital appointment if further tests or review by the anaesthetic team are required.

Preparing For Your Appointment

  • Prepare a list of any current or previous medical conditions or surgical procedures you have, or have had in the past.
  • Prepare a list of your current medication. If you are unsure about any of your medications, please clarify the information with your GP or your pharmacist before your appointment with us.
  • Please inform us if you have been an overnight inpatient in any hospital(s) within the last 12 months, are a healthcare worker or have had any hospital-acquired infections.
  • Make a list of any questions you may want to ask us.
