You are not alone

Pregnancy is often expected to be a happy and special time, but for some women it can also be very challenging — especially if you are experiencing abuse.

If this is happening to you, please know that support is available, and you deserve to feel safe and supported.

Understanding the impact

For some women, pregnancy or the time after birth can be when domestic abuse begins or becomes more severe.

Changes in daily life – such as increased time at home, stress, or changes in routine – can sometimes increase tension in relationships. This may make an already difficult situation feel harder.

Domestic violence can have a serious impact on both your health and your baby’s wellbeing, but help is available.

Reaching out for support

If you are experiencing domestic violence – or if you are worried about someone you know – we encourage you to reach out.

Our Medical Social Work Team at NMH is here to listen and support you in a safe and confidential way.

We can:

  • Offer emotional support
  • Help you understand your options
  • Provide information about legal protections
  • Connect you with safe services, including women’s refuges

You will be treated with respect, compassion and without judgement.
